Description
Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Superiore Marun is a standout expression of Barbera from Piedmont, offering impressive depth, energy and refinement in equal measure. Organic and naturally generous in style, it reflects the estate’s long-standing commitment to showing how far Barbera can be elevated when precision and ambition meet.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Marun shows a deep ruby colour with violet reflections, hinting at its youth and concentration. The bouquet is richly layered, opening with dark fruit such as blackberry, morello cherry, blueberry and plum, then unfolding into notes of black pepper, cocoa, clove, cardamom, vanilla, liquorice and balsamic touches, with subtle hints of tobacco and leather emerging underneath.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and remarkably well balanced, with vibrant acidity and silky tannins already beautifully integrated into the wine’s powerful frame. The finish is long and persistent, leaving impressions of graphite, cinchona bark and dark cherry liqueur candy. While already highly enjoyable, it has the structure to develop further complexity over time.
Production
Marun comes from Barbera vineyards in Piedmont, where the grape benefits from the region’s sunny exposures, cooling influences and soils that help preserve freshness while building flavour intensity. The wine is produced organically and with a clear focus on ripeness, balance and expression of site, resulting in a Barbera d’Alba Superiore with notable concentration and finesse.
Food & Serving
This is a natural match for rich Piedmontese dishes, roasted meats, braised beef, game, truffle-based pasta or mature cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C; decanting for about an hour is recommended, especially if the wine is enjoyed young, to allow its aromatic complexity and texture to open fully.
Producer
Matteo Correggia is one of the most respected names in Piedmont, known for helping raise the profile of Barbera d’Alba and other local varieties through quality-driven, terroir-focused winemaking. The estate has built a strong reputation for expressive, polished wines that combine regional identity with modern precision, earning recognition both in Italy and internationally.
