Description

Massolino’s Barolo Margheria 2021 is a standout expression of one of Barolo’s most distinctive crus, crafted from a small 1.5-hectare vineyard in a prized south-facing site at 340 meters above sea level. Warm, expressive, and deeply characterful, it shows the mineral tension and iron-tinged complexity that have made the Massolino family one of the benchmark producers for this vineyard.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo is likely to show the classic garnet hue of Nebbiolo with youthful brightness. The nose is marked by distinctive mineral and iron notes, layered with aromas that reflect the Margheria site’s unique identity and the wine’s serious structure. On the palate, it is warm and expressive, with a long, saline line that gives the wine precision and persistence. The finish promises excellent length, while the combination of structure, freshness, and depth suggests strong aging potential over many years, allowing its complexity to unfold beautifully with time.

Production
Margheria is a 1.5-hectare vineyard positioned at 340 meters above sea level on a south-facing slope, giving the fruit ideal exposure and ripening conditions. The wine spends around 20 days on the skins for extraction, followed by 30 months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks and a further 18 months in bottle, a vinification approach that preserves purity of fruit while adding refinement and structure.

Food & Serving
This Barolo pairs beautifully with rich Piedmontese dishes, braised beef, game, mushroom risotto, and mature cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for at least a couple of hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromatic detail and firm structure to open fully.

Producer
Massolino is one of Piedmont’s most respected Barolo producers, with a long family history rooted in Serralunga d’Alba and a strong reputation for precise, terroir-driven wines. Their deep connection to sites such as Vigna Rionda and Margheria has helped establish them as a reference point for serious Barolo, with numerous acclaimed releases over the years.
