Mas d'en Gil, Coma Blanca Priorat, 2018

Mas d’en Gil Coma Blanca 2018 is the estate’s white flagship and one of Priorat’s most distinctive cuvées. Built from old-vine fruit and a terroir-driven style, it shows the depth and personality to stand confidently after even a powerful red wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is layered and inviting, with a rich golden hue that hints at its breadth and complexity. The nose opens with ripe stone fruit, citrus, apple and flowers, followed by subtler notes of herbs, spice and a stony mineral edge. On the palate, it moves between juicy freshness and a more textured, almost creamy richness, with impressions of honey and ripe melon adding warmth without losing precision. The finish is long and nuanced, and the wine has the structure to age gracefully for several years, developing even more depth and complexity over time.

Production
The fruit comes from four vineyards in the Coma valley, including two parcels of Grenache Blanc and one of Viura, with vines planted between 1941 and 1945. The soils are the famous Llicorella of Priorat, a mix of slate and schist that gives the wine its distinctive mineral signature. After harvest, the wine is aged for six months in 500-liter oak barrels and then rested in bottle for 18 months before release.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled shellfish, lobster, shrimp, or roast chicken with Provençal herbs and plenty of fresh aromatics. Serve it at around 12°C in large Burgundy-style glasses, and decanting is optional but can help the wine раскры its full aromatic range if served young.
