Description
Mas del Périé – Fabien Jouves You Fuck My Wine?! Bio 2024 is a rebellious, organically farmed red from South-West France that wears its story right on the label. Built on rare and traditional grapes like Valdiguié, Gibert and Jurançon Noir alongside Malbec, it’s a vibrant, deliberately lighter Cahors-area red with serious personality. The provocative name is Fabien Jouves’ tongue‑in‑cheek response to regulatory changes that outlawed Jurançon Noir in AOC Cahors, and a playful nod to his love of Robert De Niro’s “Raging Bull” – a wine born from defiance as much as from terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, You Fuck My Wine?! Bio 2024 typically shows a vivid, deep ruby to purple hue, reflecting both youth and the presence of dark-skinned varieties like Malbec and Jurançon Noir. The nose is expressive and a touch wild: dark berries and black cherries mingle with notes of fresh plum, dried violets, and a faintly animal, earthy undertone that adds intrigue rather than heaviness.
On the palate, this cuvée aims for freshness and drinkability over power. Expect a juicy core of sour cherry and blackcurrant, lifted by bright acidity and a distinctly racy, taut frame. The tannins are still young and slightly grippy, offering a light astringency that keeps the wine energetic and food‑friendly rather than brooding. It’s consciously made as a lighter, easy‑drinking yet characterful red, best enjoyed in its youth to capture its vibrancy, but with enough structure to evolve positively over the next few years if you’re curious to see its more savory side emerge.
Production
Mas del Périé’s vineyards lie on the limestone plateaus and clay-limestone slopes around Trespoux-Rassiels in the South-West of France, an area whose cooler nights and mineral-rich soils help preserve acidity and aromatic intensity in the grapes. Farmed organically (and often biodynamically by Jouves), the vines are tended with minimal chemical intervention, and harvesting is typically done by hand to allow precise selection of healthy, ripe clusters of Valdiguié, Gibert, Jurançon Noir and Malbec. In the cellar, Jouves favors low-intervention winemaking: gentle extraction, spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts, restrained use of oak if any, and minimal sulfur, all designed to let these old regional varieties speak clearly and to preserve the wine’s purity, freshness and slightly untamed edge.
Food & Serving
You Fuck My Wine?! Bio 2024 is a versatile table wine that shines alongside rustic, flavorful dishes: think grilled sausages, charcuterie and pâtés, roast chicken with herbs, confit duck, or simple plates of grilled vegetables, lentil stews and hard cheeses. Its bright acidity and lively tannins also make it a great match for tomato-based pastas, pizza, or burgers. Serve slightly chilled, around 14–16°C (57–61°F), to emphasize freshness and fruit. A brief decant of 15–30 minutes can help the wine relax and smooth out its young tannins, but it’s equally enjoyable poured straight from the bottle in a casual setting.
Producer
Mas del Périé, led by the dynamic vigneron Fabien Jouves, is one of the key modern voices of Cahors and the broader South-West of France. Coming from a family of farmers, Jouves took over the estate and quickly became known for his commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, his respect for local heritage grapes, and his unapologetically natural, expressive style. By championing varieties like Jurançon Noir—despite their bureaucratic downgrading—he has helped reframe the region from a source of only dense, tannic Malbec to a hotbed of vibrant, terroir-driven wines. Mas del Périé’s cuvées, including this provocatively named bottling, have earned a cult following among natural wine lovers and critics who value authenticity, energy and a strong sense of place.
