Description
Maison Olivier Chanzy’s Montagny Le Vieux Château Blanc 1. Cru 2020 is a refined white Burgundy that brings together depth, freshness, and impressive finesse. Made from Chardonnay in one of southern Burgundy’s most characterful premier cru sites, it offers a polished expression of Montagny with both classic charm and clear terroir identity.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, luminous straw-gold colour in the glass. Aromatically, it is elegant and layered, with notes of yellow stone fruits, a subtle toasty touch, and discreet buttery nuances that add breadth without weighing down the wine’s mineral profile.
On the palate, it is harmonious and generously textured, yet remains focused, firm, and distinctly mineral. The structure is well balanced, leading to a long, refined finish that combines freshness with depth. While already highly expressive, it should also reward a few years of cellar ageing, which will allow the texture and complexity to unfold further.
Production
This wine comes from Montagny Le Vieux Château, a premier cru vineyard in Burgundy known for producing Chardonnay with tension, precision, and a fine mineral backbone. Maison Olivier Chanzy follows a hands-on, artisanal approach, working with traditional methods to preserve the integrity of the fruit and the character of the site.
Vinification and ageing take place with minimal intervention, using both stainless steel and oak barrels. This combination helps maintain purity and freshness while adding subtle depth, texture, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for seafood, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, and fine white fish, as well as mushroom-based dishes and soft, creamy cheeses. Serve it at around 10–12°C to best show its balance of freshness and texture. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a little time in the glass can help the wine reveal its full aromatic range.
Producer
Maison Olivier Chanzy is based in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy’s most prestigious wine territory, where it has built a reputation for producing wines with precision and a strong sense of place. The estate is known for its careful craftsmanship and respect for traditional Burgundian methods.
Its approach focuses on preserving purity, elegance, and terroir expression, and its wines reflect the producer’s commitment to quality over intervention. Within the region, Maison Olivier Chanzy is appreciated for offering classic, well-judged wines that speak clearly of their origin.
