Description
Maison du Vigneron Brut Dargent Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs is a lively, méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine that showcases the finesse and purity of Chardonnay from the Jura. Crafted as a non-vintage cuvée, it is blended for consistency and balance, offering an elegant, Champagne-style experience at a more accessible price. This Blanc de Blancs highlights the cool-climate character of the Jura, a region with a long tradition of producing distinctive, terroir-driven wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Brut Dargent Chardonnay appears a bright, pale straw yellow with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The nose opens with fresh green apple, lemon zest, and pear, layered with subtle white flowers, brioche, and a hint of almond, reflecting its time on lees.
On the palate, it is crisp and dry, with a refreshing acidity that frames flavors of citrus, orchard fruits, and a touch of stone fruit. Notes of fresh baguette, biscuit, and a light creamy texture add complexity without weighing the wine down. The finish is clean and mineral, with a gentle chalky edge characteristic of Chardonnay from cooler sites. Enjoyable now for its vibrancy and freshness, it will hold well for a couple of years, but this cuvée is intended to be drunk young rather than cellared long term.
Production
The Chardonnay grapes for Brut Dargent are sourced from selected vineyard parcels influenced by the cool, continental climate and limestone-rich soils of the Jura and surrounding areas, which contribute to the wine’s bright acidity and mineral backbone. Harvest typically takes place early to preserve freshness, with careful picking and gentle pressing to protect the delicate aromatics of Chardonnay. The base wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to maintain purity of fruit before being blended into a consistent house style. Following the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle), the second fermentation takes place in bottle, where the wine rests on its lees for an extended period to develop fine bubbles, texture, and subtle pastry notes before disgorgement and a balanced brut dosage.
Food & Serving
This Blanc de Blancs is a versatile food wine, ideal as an aperitif yet structured enough to carry through a meal. Pair it with oysters, shrimp cocktail, sushi, and light seafood dishes, or serve alongside goat cheese, soft cheeses, tempura, and delicate canapés. It also complements roast chicken, creamy risottos, and lightly spiced Asian dishes where acidity and bubbles cut through richness. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F). A brief 5–10 minutes in the glass is sufficient for it to open up; decanting is not necessary for this style.
