Description
Maison Burtin Champagne Vintage Brut 2014 is a poised, characterful expression of a remarkable Champagne year. Crafted predominantly from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, this cuvée pays homage to founder Gaston Burtin with a blend that captures both precision and generosity. The 2014 vintage reveals a layered complexity and refined richness, making it an excellent choice for collectors and Champagne lovers alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage Brut shows a luminous, pale golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate mousse. On the nose, it opens with notes of ripe citrus, crisp apple and pear, followed by subtler layers of white flowers, toasted brioche, hazelnut and a hint of chalky minerality.
The palate is vibrant yet elegant, driven by Chardonnay’s tension and finesse, with Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero) and Pinot Meunier adding body, red-fruited depth and a creamy mid-palate. Expect flavours of lemon zest, green apple, stone fruit and subtle red berry, wrapped in nuances of pastry cream, roasted nuts and a saline, mineral backbone. The finish is long, clean and precise, with a fine balance between freshness and complexity. Well-structured and built on quality fruit, this 2014 vintage has solid aging potential and should continue to develop additional brioche, nutty and honeyed notes over the next 5–10 years if properly cellared.
Production
Sourced mainly from esteemed Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites across the Champagne region, this cuvée reflects the chalk-rich soils and cool continental climate that define classic Champagne terroir. The blend of Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero), Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier is harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection and preserve the integrity of each cluster. After gentle pressing and primary fermentation, the base wines are carefully assembled to showcase both the structure of Pinot and the elegance of Chardonnay. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and extended aging on its lees, allowing time for complexity, creaminess and fine bubbles to develop before disgorgement and dosage.
Food & Serving
This vintage Champagne is a superb partner for refined cuisine: think oysters, scallop carpaccio, caviar, sushi and sashimi, or delicate white fish with beurre blanc. It also pairs beautifully with poultry in light cream sauces, lobster, truffled risotto and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Parmesan. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. A short decant in a carafe, or simply pouring into larger white wine glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass, can help the wine open up and fully express its complexity.
