Description

Cristal Rosé 2013 in magnum is Louis Roederer’s iconic prestige cuvée in its most age‑worthy format, presented here in an elegant gift box. Drawn only from Roederer’s finest, biodynamically farmed grand cru vineyards, this is a rare, pinpoint‑detailed rosé Champagne that combines power, finesse and crystalline purity. The 2013 vintage, cool and classical in style, has given Cristal Rosé a chiselled, mineral backbone that will reward patient cellaring for many years to come.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cristal Rosé 2013 shows a shimmering, pale salmon hue with brilliant copper reflections and a delicate, persistent mousse. The bead is ultra‑fine and continuous, a visual clue to the long aging on lees and impeccable craftsmanship. The nose is refined and complex, opening with notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants and blood orange, wrapped in aromas of clear acacia honey, white peach, pastry cream and almond. With air, more savoury and floral nuances emerge: dried white flowers, chalk dust, subtle brioche and hints of spice. On the palate, the wine is both concentrated and weightless – silk‑textured yet tightly coiled. Juicy red berry fruit and orchard fruits are lifted by razor‑sharp citrus, all framed by a powerful, saline chalkiness that is very much of Champagne’s grands crus. The finish is long, dry and mouth‑watering, with a fine phenolic grip and remarkable precision. In magnum, the 2013 Cristal Rosé has excellent aging potential; it is already thrilling but will continue to gain complexity and harmony over 15–25 years in a good cellar.

Production
Cristal Rosé 2013 is sourced exclusively from Louis Roederer’s historic, chalk‑rich grand cru vineyards in sites such as Aÿ for Pinot Noir and Avize or Le Mesnil‑sur‑Oger for Chardonnay. These cooler, east‑ and south‑facing slopes on deep limestone subsoils give the wine its trademark tension, salinity and length. The estate farms these parcels organically and biodynamically, with meticulous, low‑yield viticulture to capture maximum ripeness and aromatic precision. Grapes are hand‑harvested at optimal maturity, parcel by parcel, and carefully sorted on arrival at the winery. Vinification is carried out in a combination of stainless steel and large oak, with a proportion of the base wines aged in large French oak vats to build texture and complexity; malolactic fermentation is typically avoided to preserve the wine’s incisive freshness. Cristal Rosé is made by an exacting infusion/saignée method, where Pinot Noir from old vines is delicately macerated to achieve a refined color and aromatic depth before blending with Chardonnay. The wine then undergoes a long second fermentation and extended aging on the lees for several years, followed by disgorgement with a low, precisely judged dosage that highlights the purity of the fruit and the chalky terroir.

Food & Serving
Cristal Rosé 2013 is a gastronomic Champagne, superb at the table. It pairs beautifully with refined seafood such as lobster, langoustines, turbot or scallops, especially when prepared with delicate citrus or shellfish sauces. Its depth and structure also make it an excellent match for fine sashimi and nigiri, caviar, poultry with morel cream, veal sweetbreads, or subtly spiced dishes featuring truffle or wild mushrooms. Soft, creamy cheeses or aged Comté can also work well. Serve well‑chilled but not icy, ideally at 10–12°C (50–54°F), to allow the full aromatic spectrum to emerge. In magnum format, decanting is not essential but a gentle pour into large white wine glasses and 10–15 minutes in the glass will help the wine open and reveal its layers.

Producer
Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer remains one of Champagne’s last great independent, family‑owned houses and is renowned for its uncompromising vineyard‑driven approach. Cristal was originally created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia, and over time it has become one of the world’s most revered prestige cuvées, celebrated for its precision, longevity and terroir expression. Today, under the guidance of Chef de Caves Jean‑Baptiste Lécaillon, Roederer has been a pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in Champagne, converting key grand cru parcels to sustainable farming and focusing on estate‑grown fruit. The house’s relentless pursuit of purity and finesse has earned Cristal and Cristal Rosé consistently high scores from leading international critics and a benchmark status among collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
