Livio Felluga Merlot 2022 is a vivid expression of one of Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s most respected names, combining Merlot’s generous fruit with the refinement and precision that define the house style. Crafted from 100% Merlot and shaped by six generations of winemaking tradition, it offers a wine that is both immediately pleasurable and distinctly elegant.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear ruby-red color with impressive brightness. The nose is layered and energetic, opening with blueberry, black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, red currant, plum, and floral hints of geranium, cyclamen, orchid, and fresh potpourri, then unfolding into pepper, vanilla, liquorice root, coriander, and mint. The palate is juicy and well-balanced, with a strong core of red and black fruit framed by a light, lively tannic grip. Notes of toasted spice and balsamic freshness carry through the finish, giving the wine length, energy, and a satisfying sense of depth. It should drink beautifully now, while also having the structure to develop further over the next few years.

Production
The grapes are gently destemmed and crushed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with skin maceration at controlled temperature. Frequent pump-overs over around three weeks help extract color, aroma, and structure, while preserving the wine’s freshness and clarity. It is then aged for 12 months in a combination of stainless steel and small French oak barrels, allowing the Merlot fruit to gain complexity without losing its vibrant character.

Food & Serving
This Merlot pairs especially well with roasted poultry, grilled lamb, veal, mushroom risotto, and pasta with rich tomato-based sauces. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and a brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help open up the aromatics and soften the wine’s youthful structure.
