Description
Lis Neris Friuli Isonzo Friulano La Vila 2023 is a precise, characterful white that showcases why Friulano is one of Friuli’s most beloved native grapes. Sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Friuli Isonzo DOC, this wine balances depth and freshness in a distinctly elegant style. La Vila is Lis Neris’ refined expression of Friulano, combining regional authenticity with modern precision in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Vila 2023 shows a bright, luminous straw-yellow color with subtle greenish highlights, reflecting its youth and vibrancy. The nose is immediately inviting, offering layers of ripe pear, golden apple and white peach, intertwined with notes of almond blossom, wild herbs, and a delicate hint of broom and citrus zest. A gentle mineral undertone and a whisper of spice give the bouquet added complexity.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied yet finely structured, with a creamy, almost waxy texture lifted by crisp, saline acidity. Flavors of stone fruit, citrus, and juicy orchard fruits are complemented by Friulano’s signature almond note and a lightly herbal edge. The finish is long, clean and savory, leaving a pleasant, slightly nutty aftertaste and a touch of minerality that speaks clearly of its Friuli Isonzo origins. Enjoyed now, it offers immediate pleasure, but it also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, gaining more complexity, texture and tertiary nuances with short-term cellaring.
Production
La Vila is sourced from vineyards in the Friuli Isonzo area, a terroir defined by its stony, well-drained alluvial soils and the constant interplay between cool Alpine currents and warm Adriatic breezes. This unique microclimate allows Friulano to ripen slowly, concentrating aromas while preserving natural acidity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection and integrity of the fruit. In the cellar, Lis Neris favors a gentle, minimalist approach: the grapes are softly pressed, the must is clarified by gravity, and fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, primarily in stainless steel, sometimes with a portion in larger neutral vessels to add texture without overt oak influence. Extended contact with fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage, contributes to the wine’s creamy mouthfeel and complexity while maintaining a pure, terroir-driven profile.
Food & Serving
Lis Neris Friuli Isonzo Friulano La Vila 2023 is a superb partner for a wide range of dishes, particularly those with Mediterranean or Northern Italian influences. It pairs beautifully with prosciutto crudo (especially San Daniele), grilled or baked white fish, shellfish, risotto with herbs or spring vegetables, poultry, and mild to semi-aged cheeses. Friulano’s subtle almond character also works well with dishes featuring asparagus, artichokes, or delicate herbal sauces. Serve at 10–12 °C to highlight its freshness and aromatic complexity. While decanting is not strictly necessary for this youthful white, pouring it into a slightly larger white wine glass and giving it a few minutes in the glass will allow the aromatics to fully open.
