Description
Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of Château Lagrange, bringing much of the estate’s Saint-Julien character in a more approachable, early-drinking style. Offered here in magnum format, the 2023 vintage is especially appealing for collectors and for gatherings, as the larger bottle size helps preserve freshness and development over time.
Tasting Notes
At this stage, the wine is likely to show a deep ruby core with youthful purple reflections. The nose should lean toward ripe blackcurrant, plum, and red cherry, layered with cedar, graphite, subtle spice, and a touch of toasted oak.
On the palate, expect a medium- to full-bodied Bordeaux blend with polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a balanced, elegant structure. The magnum format supports graceful aging, and while it will drink well in its youth, it should also develop additional complexity over the next 5 to 10 years, gaining more savory and tertiary notes with cellaring.
Production
Produced in Saint-Julien on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Les Fiefs de Lagrange comes from gravelly soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon and help produce wines with structure, freshness, and aromatic precision. The fruit is typically harvested by plot and vinified with care to preserve the character of each parcel, followed by aging in oak barrels to add texture and complexity while keeping the style refined and accessible.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, grilled mushrooms, and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged cheddar. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening young, especially if you want to soften the tannins and reveal more of the wine’s aromatic layers.
Producer
Château Lagrange is a historic estate in Saint-Julien, one of Bordeaux’s most respected appellations, and has long been recognized for its classically structured, elegant wines. Les Fiefs de Lagrange serves as the château’s second wine, offering a fine introduction to the estate’s style and quality. Over the years, the property has built a strong reputation for consistency and for producing wines that reflect both the power and finesse of the Left Bank.
