Tasting Notes
In the glass, L'Eglise Clinet 2022 presents a deep, opaque ruby-purple hue, hinting at its concentration and youth. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with ripe mulberry and blackcurrant, then unfurling notes of incense, black licorice, crushed rose petals and sweet exotic spice, complemented by subtle hints of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and densely packed, with a muscular yet refined core of ripe, vibrant fruit. Dark berries and plum are interwoven with graphite, spice and floral nuances, all carried by a velvety frame of sweet, powdery tannins. Despite its richness and the largely hidden 14.6% alcohol, it remains poised and energetic, finishing long, resonant and multidimensional. This is a serious, cellar-worthy Pomerol with the structure and concentration to age gracefully for 20–30 years, gradually gaining tertiary notes of truffle, tobacco and forest floor.

Production
L'Eglise Clinet’s vineyards lie on some of Pomerol’s finest terroir, a mosaic of clay, gravel and iron-rich subsoils that naturally favors Merlot, with Cabernet Franc adding aromatic lift and tension. Vines are typically old and low-yielding, meticulously tended throughout the growing season to ensure small, concentrated berries. The 2022 harvest took place early, between 3 and 9 September, with careful, hand selection of the fruit. In the cellar, vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled vats, allowing for gentle extraction to preserve purity and finesse despite the vintage’s power. The wine is then aged in French oak barriques, a significant proportion of which are new, where it gains additional complexity, texture and aromatic polish before bottling.

L'Eglise Clinet 2022 is a superb match for refined, richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb with rosemary, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison or truffle-infused dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses like Comté or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to fully express its aromatics and balance. In its youth, it benefits from a 2–3 hour decant to soften the tannins and allow the bouquet to open; with maturity, a shorter, gentle decant mainly to remove sediment will be sufficient.
