Description

Le Vigne di San Pietro IGT Verona Rosato Magnum 2017 is an elegant, lake-influenced rosé from the morainic hills between Lake Garda and Verona. Crafted from the classic Valpolicella trio Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, it offers a more serious, gastronomic expression of Veneto rosé with the added complexity of bottle age and magnum format. This vintage captures the estate’s philosophy of finesse, minerality and quiet intensity, reflecting over three decades of thoughtful, small-scale winemaking.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2017 Rosato shows a luminous, slightly evolved hue – think pale salmon with coppery, onion-skin glints that hint at its time in bottle. The nose is delicately expressive yet layered: wild strawberries, redcurrant and blood orange peel are intertwined with rose petals, dried herbs, a gentle spice note and a subtle, stony minerality. On the palate, it is dry, refined and textural rather than overtly fruity. Fresh red berries and pomegranate meld with notes of pink grapefruit, bitter orange and a faint almond nuance typical of the local grapes. The Lake Garda influence brings a clean, saline edge and vibrant acidity, while the extra aging in magnum has softened the structure and added a touch of savory complexity. This is a rosé that drinks beautifully now, with its maturity adding charm and nuance, yet in magnum it can still hold and evolve gently for another couple of years under good cellaring conditions, developing more spice and tertiary notes.

Production
The vineyards of Le Vigne di San Pietro lie on the morainic hills formed by ancient glaciers near Lake Garda, on soils rich in clay and limestone with abundant minerals and stones. This unique terroir, combined with the lake’s temperate influence and the surrounding mixed woodland, creates a ventilated microclimate with strong biodiversity and steady, balanced ripening. The Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection in the vineyard. In the cellar, a gentle pressing and a short maceration on the skins extract the delicate color and subtle aromatics, followed by a cool, controlled fermentation to preserve freshness and purity. The wine is then aged on fine lees for added texture and complexity before bottling in magnum, a format that naturally favors a slower, more graceful evolution.

Food & Serving
This refined Veneto rosé is a versatile partner at the table, especially in its magnum format, ideal for sharing. Pair it with antipasti, charcuterie, prosciutto crudo, grilled vegetables, lake or sea fish (such as grilled trout, salmon or tuna), seafood risotto, light poultry dishes and Mediterranean salads with herbs and citrus. It also works beautifully with soft cheeses and delicate, herb-led pasta dishes. Serve at 10–12°C to highlight its freshness while allowing the more subtle, mature notes to open up. Decanting is not essential, but pouring the first glass and letting the bottle rest for 10–15 minutes will help the wine unfurl its aromatics, especially given its age and magnum format.

Producer
Le Vigne di San Pietro was founded in 1980 by Sergio and Franca Nerozzi, who left the bustle of city life to create a family-run estate in the rolling hills between Lake Garda and Verona. Today, their son Carlo Nerozzi, originally trained in architecture, leads the winery, channeling his creative instincts into a precise, artistic approach to viticulture and winemaking. The 10-hectare property is considered something of an “island” of vines and nature, surrounded by a small forest that encourages biodiversity and healthy vineyards. Working closely for over 15 years with agronomist and oenologist Federico Giotto, Carlo has shaped a style defined by elegance, minerality and subtle intensity, earning the estate a quiet but respected reputation among wine lovers seeking authentic, terroir-driven wines from Veneto.
