Le Macchiole Messorio is a benchmark Tuscan Merlot: concentrated, polished, and unmistakably expressive. Born from the estate’s long passion for this grape, it combines the depth and elegance of Bolgheri terroir with the refinement of careful élevage, making it one of Italy’s most celebrated modern reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Messorio shows a compact, luminous ruby-red color. The nose is intense and layered, with clear notes of sour cherry, plum, and black cherry, followed by licorice, mentholated tobacco, quinine, dark spice, and subtle vegetal and aromatic nuances. On the palate it is consistent and balanced, with a smooth texture and ripe, velvety tannins. A fresh, spicy-salty lift keeps the wine energetic and focused, while the finish is long and persistent. With its structure and depth, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully over time.

Production
Messorio comes from Toscana IGT and is made entirely from Merlot, sourced by Le Macchiole in Bolgheri, where coastal influences and mineral-rich soils help shape wines of richness and freshness. The grapes are carefully harvested and selected to preserve precision and balance, then the wine is aged for 18 months in new barriques, a regimen that contributes to its density, spice, and seamless structure.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal wine for richly flavored dishes such as grilled or roasted beef, lamb, game, truffle-based pasta, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully; decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth.
