L’Aventure Cuvee Estate 2019

L’Aventure Cuvée Estate 2019 is a standout Paso Robles red from one of California’s most distinctive estates, crafted by French-born winemaker Stephan Asseo. Built around a Rhône-meets-Bordeaux philosophy, it combines power, precision, and richness in a style that has helped make L’Aventure one of the region’s most acclaimed producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and generosity. The nose opens with layers of cassis, blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, plum, violets, dark chocolate, graphite, and a subtle tarry note, all wrapped in luxurious French oak. The palate is full-bodied and intensely flavored, yet remarkably balanced, with ripe dark fruit, polished tannins, and a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything lifted. Despite its scale, the wine feels seamless and refined, finishing long, concentrated, and persistent. It has excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.

Production
The Estate Cuvée comes from sustainably farmed vineyards in Willow Creek, one of Paso Robles’ most respected growing areas, where calcareous soils and maritime influences help shape wines with both ripeness and structure. The 2019 blend is composed of 50% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot, harvested with a focus on quality and balance. It was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, with 81% new oak, adding depth, texture, and spice to the final wine.

Food & Serving
This is a powerful red that pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb chops, game, or rich mushroom dishes. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and slow-cooked barbecue. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine fully open up.

L’Aventure Winery was founded in 1998 by Stephan Asseo, a classically trained French winemaker who left behind the constraints of Bordeaux’s appellation system in search of creative freedom. After traveling the world in pursuit of great terroir, he settled in Paso Robles, where the combination of limestone soils and coastal influence proved ideal for his bold, expressive blends. Today, L’Aventure is regarded as one of Paso Robles’ benchmark estates, with wines that regularly earn top scores and wide critical acclaim.
