Description
Laurent Perrier Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is a pure, laser-focused expression of Chardonnay from one of Champagne’s most respected houses. Crafted without dosage (no added sugar), it delivers an ultra-crisp, mineral-driven style that showcases the grape and terroir in their most natural form. This non-vintage cuvée draws on Laurent-Perrier’s long experience with Chardonnay and its pioneering work in the Brut Nature category since 1981.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs shows a pale, luminous straw color with green highlights and a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose is precise and elegant, revealing notes of lemon zest, white grapefruit, green apple and pear, layered with delicate white flowers, fresh almonds, chalky minerality and a hint of brioche from extended lees aging.
On the palate, it is bone-dry, taut and vibrant, with a racy acidity that frames citrus and orchard-fruit flavors: Meyer lemon, crisp apple and crunchy pear, alongside subtle hints of hazelnut and saline chalk. The Brut Nature style emphasizes purity and tension, giving the wine a long, chalk-infused finish and a very clean, mouthwatering aftertaste. Enjoyable now for its energy and precision, it also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years, gaining a bit more roundness and complexity while retaining its freshness.
Production
The Chardonnay for this cuvée is sourced from carefully selected plots in the Champagne region, where cool climate and chalk and limestone-rich soils give the grapes their hallmark tension and mineral backbone. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic delicacy, then gently pressed to extract only the purest juice. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, a deliberate choice by Laurent-Perrier to protect the varietal character and freshness of Chardonnay. The base wines are blended from different vintages to achieve balance and consistency, then undergo secondary fermentation in the bottle and are aged extensively on lees to develop finesse and texture. True to the Brut Nature style, no dosage is added at disgorgement, resulting in an unadorned, terroir-driven Champagne.
Food & Serving
This Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is superb with pristine seafood: oysters, scallops, sashimi, ceviche and fresh crab or lobster. It also pairs beautifully with delicate white fish, sushi, tempura, goat cheese, lightly dressed salads and refined vegetable dishes such as asparagus or artichokes. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10°C (46–50°F), to emphasize its precision and freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or a quick splash decant can help the aromas open, but extended decanting is not necessary; this wine is meant to be enjoyed for its vibrant, straight-to-the-point expression.
