Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a dense purple core, hinting at its concentration and youthfulness despite the vintage. The nose is layered and refined, with classic Lafite signatures of graphite, smoke, cassis, floral notes, and a touch of melted licorice. On the palate, it is rich and powerful, yet polished, with remarkable purity, opulence, and a velvety texture. The tannins are substantial and will continue to shape the wine over time, giving it strong aging potential well into the coming decades. It already shows generosity and softness, but the structure suggests there is still plenty to unfold.

Production
The 2003 vintage was a very small production year, with yields less than half of normal due to the weather conditions. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, reflecting the estate’s traditional Bordeaux style. Bottled in mid-May 2005 after reaching 12.9% natural alcohol, it represents a ripe and concentrated expression of the Lafite terroir and the challenges of the vintage.

This wine is best served at around 16–18°C and benefits from careful decanting, especially if opened relatively young, to allow its aromas and structure to open fully. It pairs beautifully with fine cuts of beef, lamb, venison, roast duck, truffle dishes, and other rich savory cuisine that can stand up to its depth and tannic frame.
