Description

La Vrille Val d’Aosta Chambave Muscat Fletri 0.375L 2020 is an exquisite, small-batch dessert wine from the dramatic alpine slopes of Italy’s Aosta Valley. Crafted from sun-ripened and partially dried Moscato Bianco grapes, it delivers intense sweetness balanced by vibrant mountain freshness. This Fletri (the local term for passito-style wines) is a rare expression of Chambave Muscat, reflecting both centuries of regional tradition and the meticulous touch of a modern artisan producer.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chambave Muscat Fletri shows a deep golden to amber hue, with luminous reflections that hint at its concentration and sweetness. The nose is wonderfully expressive and layered: expect heady aromas of orange blossom, acacia honey, candied citrus peel, ripe apricot, dried figs, and golden raisins, lifted by subtle notes of alpine herbs and a whisper of spice. On the palate, the wine is rich and velvety, with luscious flavors of apricot jam, marmalade, honeycomb, and dried tropical fruit, supported by refreshing acidity that keeps it from ever feeling cloying. The characteristic floral lift of Moscato Bianco intertwines with hints of bergamot, sage, and a light minerality from its mountain origins. The finish is long, honeyed, and aromatic, leaving echoes of citrus zest and dried flowers. Enjoyable now for its vibrant fruit and perfume, this 2020 vintage has the structure and sugar-acid balance to age gracefully for 8–12 years, evolving towards more caramelized, nutty, and tea-like nuances over time.

Production
La Vrille’s Chambave Muscat Fletri is born from steep, terraced vineyards in the Aosta Valley, where rocky, well-drained soils and large diurnal temperature swings produce grapes with intense aromatics and natural acidity. The Moscato Bianco (also known locally as Moscato Reale) is typically harvested by hand at full ripeness, then selected bunches are further dried in well-ventilated rooms to concentrate sugars, aromas, and extract in the traditional Fletri (passito) style. After this period of appassimento, the grapes are gently pressed and slowly fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve their delicate, floral character. The wine is then aged, often partly in stainless steel and possibly a portion in small wooden vessels, to harmonize sweetness, texture, and aromatics before bottling in half-bottle format, ideal for dessert service and careful cellaring.

Food & Serving
This dessert wine is a natural partner for classic alpine and Italian sweets: think hazelnut tarts, almond biscotti, apple strudel, honey-drizzled ricotta, or panna cotta with citrus. It also pairs beautifully with blue cheeses (such as Gorgonzola dolce), aged hard cheeses, or foie gras, where its sweetness and acidity cut through richness. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C (50–54°F), to showcase both its aromatics and texture. Decanting is generally not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving will allow the bouquet to fully unfold.

Producer
La Vrille is a small, quality-focused producer in the Aosta Valley, a region renowned for its high-altitude vineyards and distinctive mountain wines. Combining respect for local traditions with attentive, artisanal cellar work, La Vrille has built a reputation for expressive, terroir-driven bottlings, including the rare and highly regarded Chambave Muscat Fletri. By championing indigenous styles and working sensitively with the challenging alpine environment, the estate contributes to the Aosta Valley’s growing recognition as one of Italy’s most intriguing and characterful wine regions.
