Description

La Montina Franciacorta Brut is a refined Italian sparkling wine that captures the elegance and precision of the Franciacorta region in Lombardy. Crafted primarily from Chardonnay with a touch of Pinot Nero, it offers a polished, versatile style that works beautifully as both an aperitif and a food wine. Often referred to as the estate’s calling card, this cuvée showcases La Montina’s house style: clean, vibrant and exquisitely balanced, with a strong sense of place rooted in the rolling hills of Franciacorta.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Montina Franciacorta Brut shows a bright, straw-yellow color with delicate golden highlights and a fine, persistent perlage. The bubbles are small and continuous, forming a soft, creamy mousse that hints at careful bottle aging. On the nose, it opens with fresh citrus—lemon zest and ripe grapefruit—followed by green apple, white peach and subtle notes of acacia blossom. With a little air, you’ll find hints of brioche, toasted bread, hazelnut and a faint mineral edge that speaks to its limestone-rich soils. The palate is dry, crisp and incredibly pure, with a lively backbone of acidity that keeps the wine precise and refreshing. Flavors of pear, apple and citrus are layered with almond, biscuit and a gentle creaminess from time spent on the lees. The Pinot Nero brings a touch of backbone and structure, while Chardonnay delivers finesse and length. The finish is clean, saline and lingering, making each sip feel both invigorating and refined. Enjoy it now for its vibrancy, or cellar for 3–5 years to gain a little more complexity and roundness.

Production
La Montina Franciacorta Brut is born in the gently rolling hills of Lombardy’s Franciacorta zone, an area characterized by morainic, glacially influenced soils rich in stones and minerals. These well-drained, mineral soils, combined with a temperate climate moderated by nearby Lake Iseo, are ideal for cultivating Chardonnay and Pinot Nero destined for fine sparkling wine. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection and preserve aromatic freshness. After a gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented in stainless steel to highlight purity and fruit, with some lots possibly seeing short aging on fine lees. The traditional method (metodo classico) is used for the second fermentation in bottle, followed by extended aging on the lees to build texture, complexity and the fine, persistent mousse that defines Franciacorta. After disgorgement, a measured dosage creates a Brut style that is crisp yet harmonious.

Food & Serving
This Franciacorta Brut is an excellent match for a wide range of dishes, making it as versatile at the table as it is charming in the glass. Pair it with fresh oysters, shrimp cocktail, sushi and sashimi, or classic Italian antipasti such as prosciutto, salami and aged cheeses. It also works beautifully with delicate fish dishes, seafood risotto, light pastas with vegetables or cream-based sauces, and roast chicken or turkey. Serve well-chilled at 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its vibrancy and fine bubbles. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass after opening is usually sufficient; decanting is not necessary, but pouring into proper sparkling wine flutes or tulip-shaped glasses will best showcase its aromas and mousse.

Producer
Founded in the heart of Franciacorta, La Montina has earned a respected place among the region’s quality-driven producers, known for combining traditional craftsmanship with a modern, meticulous approach. The estate sits in one of the historic areas of Franciacorta, where the potential for high-quality metodo classico wines was recognized early on. Over the years, La Montina has become a reference point for refined, terroir-driven sparkling wines, consistently emphasizing hand-harvesting, careful selection and extended lees aging to achieve depth and finesse. Their Franciacorta Brut serves as an ambassador for both the winery and the region, showcasing why Franciacorta is considered Italy’s answer to Champagne in terms of quality, method and aging potential.
