Description
Château La Lagune is a distinguished Third Growth estate from the Haut-Médoc, offering one of Bordeaux’s most elegant and refined expressions of classic claret. The 2005 vintage is especially appealing for its balance, structure, and concentration, reflecting one of the great harvests of the decade.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep garnet color with developing ruby reflections at the rim. On the nose, expect layered aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf, dried herbs, and subtle earthy notes, with the maturity of the vintage adding nuance and polish.
The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with firm but well-integrated tannins, bright acidity, and a core of dark berry fruit framed by graphite, spice, and savory complexity. The 2005 vintage has excellent aging potential, and while it can be enjoyed now, it should continue to evolve gracefully over the coming years.
Production
La Lagune’s vineyards sit on a classic Médoc terroir of gravelly soils, which help drain excess water and encourage deep rooting, contributing to the wine’s finesse and structure. Grapes are typically harvested with careful selection to ensure full ripeness, and vinification is carried out in the traditional Bordeaux style to preserve purity of fruit, balance, and the estate’s signature elegance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, game dishes, and mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if opening now, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open and show its full aromatic depth.
Producer
Château La Lagune is one of the notable classified growths of the Haut-Médoc, long respected for producing stylish, terroir-driven wines with consistent quality. The estate has earned a strong reputation for precision and elegance, making it a benchmark producer for Bordeaux lovers seeking a classic Left Bank profile.
