Description

La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino 2007 is a beautifully mature expression of Sangiovese Grosso from the rolling hills around the historic town of Montalcino in Tuscany. Combining the power of a warm vintage with the finesse of a classic terroir, this Brunello delivers depth, complexity and harmony in every glass. A family-run estate since the mid-20th century, La Fortuna blends traditional craftsmanship with precise, modern cellar work, earning a strong reputation among Brunello enthusiasts worldwide.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2007 shows a deep ruby core gently shifting towards garnet at the rim, a clear sign of its graceful evolution in bottle. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with dried cherries and plum, followed by violet, tobacco leaf, leather and hints of clove, cinnamon and sweet spice. Subtle notes of undergrowth and balsamic tones add further complexity as the wine unfolds in the glass. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet beautifully balanced Brunello, where ripe, polished tannins and vibrant acidity work in tandem to support the concentrated fruit. Flavours of macerated red berries, sour cherry and dark plum are intertwined with savoury notes of forest floor, cured tobacco, leather and a touch of balsamico. The finish is long, persistent and harmonious, with both fruit and tertiary nuances lingering elegantly. The 2007 vintage is now in an excellent drinking window, showing its maturity with poise, yet it still has a few years of positive evolution ahead if cellared well.

Production
La Fortuna’s vineyards lie on both north- and south-facing slopes around Montalcino, giving a natural complexity and balance between freshness and richness in the fruit. The soils are rich in limestone, clay and scattered stones, providing excellent drainage and imparting structure, minerality and aromatic lift to the Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The grapes for this Brunello are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the best clusters from fully ripe vines shaped by the warm and stable 2007 growing season. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using a traditional approach that preserves varietal character and clarity of fruit. The wine is then aged for about 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by extended bottle ageing before release, allowing the tannins to soften and the complex bouquet to develop.

Food & Serving
This mature Brunello is a superb match for richly flavoured dishes such as osso buco, braised beef, roasted or stewed game, lamb shank and earthy mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino Toscano, as well as truffle-infused preparations. Serve at around 18 °C in large Burgundy or Brunello glasses to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to open up and shed any remaining bottle reduction, especially if it has been stored for many years.

Producer
La Fortuna is a family-owned estate established in the mid-1900s on the eastern side of Montalcino, an area long recognised for producing structured, age-worthy Brunello. Over the decades, the estate has steadily built a reputation for crafting wines that respect tradition while embracing selective modern techniques in both vineyard and cellar. By working with carefully farmed Sangiovese Grosso on varied exposures and classic Tuscan soils, La Fortuna has become a respected name within the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, known for wines that combine purity of fruit, terroir transparency and reliable ageing potential across vintages like the benchmark 2007.
