Description
Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 1995 is one of Champagne’s rarest and most coveted single-vineyard expressions, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir grown in a tiny 0.68-hectare walled parcel in Ambonnay. A true collector’s wine, it reflects Krug’s uncompromising approach to precision, individuality, and long aging, while showcasing the remarkable character of one of Champagne’s most prized terroirs.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden hue, already hinting at its maturity and depth. The nose is layered and refined, opening with notes of ripe wheat, then unfolding into gingerbread, candied orange peel, and a delicate touch of hazelnut.
On the palate, it combines elegance with impressive breadth and intensity, driven by the richness of Pinot Noir and the finesse developed through extended cellar aging. The finish is exceptionally long, leaving a graceful echo of citrus and fine oxidative complexity. This is a Champagne with outstanding aging potential and a style built for slow, contemplative enjoyment.
Production
Clos d’Ambonnay comes from a single enclosed vineyard in the village of Ambonnay, a Grand Cru site in the Montagne de Reims known for producing powerful, expressive Pinot Noir. Krug acquired the parcel in 1994 and released the first vintage, 1995, in 2007 after more than 12 years of aging in the cellars. The wine is vinified as a 100% Pinot Noir Champagne, with Krug’s signature meticulous attention to detail and extended maturation shaping its exceptional texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, truffle risotto, roast chicken with cream sauce, or aged Comté and Parmesan. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if serving from a mature bottle to help раскрыte its aromatics and allow the full bouquet to unfold.
