Description

Krug 1996 in magnum format is a benchmark vintage Champagne from one of the most revered houses in the region. Known for its extraordinary balance of tension, ripeness and depth, this is a wine that captures the character of the exceptional 1996 harvest and the timeless style of Krug.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined golden hue with an energetic stream of bubbles. The bouquet is remarkably expressive, opening with citrus peel, green apple and toasted nuts before evolving into layered aromas of brioche, caramel, spice and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet precise, driven by a striking acidity that gives the wine its signature freshness and almost electric energy. The texture is rich and enveloping, with notes of ripe orchard fruit, honey, roasted hazelnut and saline minerality leading into a long, focused finish. This is a Champagne with superb aging potential, and the magnum format will help it evolve beautifully over many years.

Production
Krug 1996 is crafted from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier sourced from Champagne’s finest terroirs, where the contrasting soils and chalk-rich subsoils contribute both structure and finesse. The 1996 vintage was marked by a rare combination of high acidity and excellent ripeness, giving the wines remarkable concentration and longevity. Vinification follows Krug’s meticulous house philosophy, aimed at preserving precision, complexity and depth.

Food & Serving
Ideal with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, caviar, roast poultry or aged Parmesan, as well as delicate truffle-based preparations. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C to allow the aromatics to unfold, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short opening time in the glass can help reveal its full complexity.

Producer
Champagne Krug is one of the most iconic names in Champagne, founded in 1843 and celebrated for producing wines of exceptional richness, detail and individuality. The house is renowned for its commitment to blending, reserve wines and long maturation, and it has earned a reputation as one of the great benchmarks of prestige Champagne worldwide.
