Description

Kosta Browne Bootlegger’s Hill Pinot Noir 2017 is a standout expression of California Pinot Noir, bringing together precision, finesse, and a distinctive sense of place. Sourced from the highly regarded Bootlegger’s Hill vineyard in Sonoma Coast, it reflects the cool-climate elegance and layered complexity that have made Kosta Browne one of the most celebrated names in the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a deep, intense ruby color that hints at its concentration. The nose opens with enticing aromas of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, and fresh strawberry, lifted by notes of black pepper, spice, and a subtle touch of oak. The palate is silky and refined, with layers of dark berries, warming spice, and a gentle smoky edge. Fine tannins and bright acidity keep everything balanced, leading to a structured, persistent finish. While beautifully enjoyable now, it also has the depth to develop further over the next few years.

Production
Bootlegger’s Hill sits in the Sonoma Coast, where the cool maritime climate and distinctive terroir help preserve freshness while building aromatic complexity. The fruit is carefully selected before fermentation, with attention paid to maintaining purity and balance. After vinification, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, which adds texture, nuance, and subtle savory depth without overwhelming the Pinot Noir character.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, roast chicken, duck breast, or earthy dishes with truffle and herbs. Serve slightly chilled at around 15–17°C for the best expression of its aromatics and structure. Decanting for 30–60 minutes can help open up the wine and bring out its layered complexity.

Producer
Kosta Browne was founded in Sonoma County and quickly built a reputation as one of California’s benchmark Pinot Noir producers. Known for its site-driven approach and meticulous winemaking, the winery has earned widespread recognition for crafting wines of exceptional depth, balance, and elegance. Bootlegger’s Hill is among its most admired vineyard sites, showcasing the producer’s skill at translating terroir into highly expressive wines.
