The Lagrein grapes are sourced from vineyards on the valley floor around Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige, where warm days, cool nights and well-drained alluvial and gravelly soils help the variety achieve both ripeness and structure. The pronounced diurnal temperature variation locks in aromatics and acidity, giving Lagrein its characteristic vibrancy. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve fruit quality, then gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks to ensure clean, expressive aromatics and color extraction. A period of maturation—often in a mix of stainless steel and large or older wooden vessels—helps to soften tannins while keeping the emphasis on freshness, purity of fruit and the grape’s distinctive varietal character.
