Description

Jérôme Prévost’s La Closerie Les Béguines is a cult Champagne that shows just how expressive Pinot Meunier can be in the right hands. Deeply textured yet remarkably refined, it balances generous fruit, minerality, and detail with an almost effortless sense of poise. A standout from Champagne for those who appreciate individuality, precision, and a truly artisanal style.

Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a fine, persistent mousse, this wine opens with layers of ripe yellow stone fruit, orchard fruit, and a subtle floral lift. With air, more nuanced aromas emerge: smoke, tar, incense, toasted hazelnut, and a lightly chalky, saline edge that adds definition and complexity. On the palate, it is broad and supple without ever losing tension, combining richness with restraint in a beautifully judged way. The finish is polished, long, and mineral-driven, with lingering nutty and smoky notes. While delicious now for its energy and depth, it should also continue to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Production
Les Béguines comes from Jérôme Prévost’s small parcel in the village of Gueux, in the Montagne de Reims area of Champagne, where old-vine Pinot Meunier thrives in sandy, clay-limestone soils. The domaine is known for meticulous, low-intervention farming and hand harvesting, with the goal of preserving site expression and vine character. Vinification is carried out in a careful artisanal style, allowing the wine to ferment and mature with minimal manipulation so the personality of the fruit and terroir can shine through.

Food & Serving
An excellent match for dishes with richness and depth, such as roast chicken, veal, scallops, truffle risotto, or aged Comté. It also works beautifully with sushi or sashimi thanks to its precision and subtle saline character. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and while decanting is not essential, a short period in the glass will help the aromas open up.

Producer
Jérôme Prévost is one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers, admired for making intensely individual wines from a tiny holding in Gueux. His La Closerie bottlings helped cement Pinot Meunier’s reputation as a serious, terroir-driven grape in Champagne rather than simply a blending component. Prévost’s wines are highly sought after for their purity, texture, and unmistakable sense of place.
