Description
Jermann Where Dreams 2013 is one of Italy’s most iconic Chardonnay-based white wines, a refined expression of Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s cool-climate elegance. Crafted in limited quantities, it combines Burgundian-style richness with unmistakable Italian precision and flair. First released in the late 1980s, “...Dreams...” has since become a modern classic, often mentioned among Italy’s finest white wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2013 Where Dreams shows a luminous straw-yellow color with golden reflections, hinting at both ripeness and careful barrel aging. The nose is generous and layered, offering exotic notes of ripe tropical fruit, citrus peel, and stone fruit alongside melted butter, vanilla, pastry cream, and a delicate touch of toasted oak.
On the palate, it fully delivers on the aromatic promise: rich yet finely balanced, with a creamy texture supporting flavors of ripe pineapple, yellow plum, lemon curd, and brioche. Subtle spice, vanilla, and a hint of hazelnut unfold with air, wrapped in a fresh, persistent acidity that keeps the wine lively and precise. The 2013 vintage is now in a beautiful drinking window, with the structure and concentration to continue evolving gracefully for several more years, developing additional complexity, honeyed notes, and tertiary nuances with further cellaring.
Production
Sourced from prime Chardonnay vineyards in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Where Dreams reflects a terroir defined by cool Alpine influences, proximity to the Adriatic Sea, and mineral-rich, well-drained soils that favor slow, even ripening. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal maturity to preserve both aromatic intensity and natural acidity. In the cellar, Jermann employs meticulous selection followed by gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation, and aging in small oak barrels, allowing the wine to gain texture, complexity, and subtle toast without overwhelming its varietal purity and regional character.
Food & Serving
Where Dreams 2013 is a superb match for refined seafood dishes such as butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, or grilled turbot, as well as rich poultry preparations like roast chicken with herbs or veal in cream sauce. It also pairs beautifully with truffle risotto, porcini-based dishes, and aged, creamy cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic complexity. Decanting for 30–45 minutes can help the wine open up fully, especially if served at the upper end of the temperature range.
Producer
Jermann, today in partnership with the renowned Antinori family, is one of Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s benchmark producers and a key name in the rise of Italian fine white wine on the world stage. Founded by the Jermann family of Austrian-Slovenian origin, the estate gained international recognition in the late 20th century for its groundbreaking, terroir-driven whites that married innovation with meticulous vineyard work. “...Dreams...” quickly became a flagship cuvée and a symbol of Jermann’s ambition, earning consistent praise from critics and collectors alike and helping cement Friuli’s reputation as one of Europe’s greatest regions for premium white wines.
