Description
Jérémy Recchione Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 brings together French Burgundian finesse and classic Piedmontese character in a single, expressive red. Crafted from Nebbiolo grown in the hills of the Langhe and vinified with techniques more familiar to Pinot Noir, this wine offers both aromatic lift and serious structure. It’s a thoughtful, modern take on Italy’s ‘king’ grape, shaped by a winemaker whose roots and inspirations span both France and Italy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Langhe Nebbiolo shows a luminous, pale ruby to garnet hue, with the translucent brightness typical of the grape. The nose is immediately inviting and floral, with notes of rose petals, violets, and dried herbs, layered over red cherry, wild strawberry, and a hint of blood orange. Subtle spice, dried tea leaves, and a touch of earthy minerality emerge with a bit of air.
On the palate, the wine is elegant yet firmly structured. Fine but assertive tannins frame flavors of crunchy red berries, sour cherry, and pomegranate, supported by fresh acidity that keeps everything lively and precise. The Burgundian influence shows in the purity of fruit and the delicate extraction, while the Nebbiolo heritage comes through in the tightly woven tannic grip and long, savory finish. Enjoyable in its youth with a short decant, it has the balance and structure to develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years, as the tannins soften and the floral and earthy notes deepen.
Production
The grapes for this wine are sourced from selected sites in the Langhe, where Nebbiolo thrives on calcareous clay and marl soils, with hillside exposures that provide excellent drainage and diurnal temperature shifts. These conditions help preserve acidity while allowing the grapes to achieve aromatic complexity and tannin maturity. Harvest is carried out by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches in the vineyard. In the cellar, Jérémy applies Burgundian-inspired methods to Nebbiolo, including a proportion of whole-cluster fermentation to enhance fragrance, texture, and spice. Gentle extraction and a restrained use of oak (if any is used, it is likely older, neutral barrels) emphasize finesse and transparency over power, resulting in a wine that highlights both terroir and varietal character.
Food & Serving
This Langhe Nebbiolo is an excellent partner for dishes that benefit from its bright acidity and firm tannins. Think classic Piedmontese fare such as tajarin with ragù, vitello tonnato, or braised beef, as well as mushroom risotto, roasted poultry, charcuterie, and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes and simple grilled lamb or pork. Serve at 16–18°C, slightly cooler than room temperature, to keep the aromatics vibrant and the structure in balance. A 30–60 minute decant is recommended in its youth to help the tannins relax and allow the floral and spice notes to fully emerge.
Producer
Though born and raised in France, Jérémy Recchione has deep Italian roots, and his curiosity about his heritage eventually drew him to Piedmont. There, he found a natural affinity with Nebbiolo, which he regards as Italy’s noble counterpart to his long-standing champion, Pinot Noir. Jérémy’s approach is to grow, harvest, and vinify in Italy, while operating from a base in France, bridging two great wine cultures in his work. His wines stand out in the region for their Burgundian sensibility: a focus on precision, whole-cluster use, and elegance over sheer power. In a landscape dominated by long-established names, Recchione represents a new generation of cross-cultural winemakers bringing fresh perspective to the Langhe, earning attention for his refined, terroir-driven expressions of Nebbiolo.
