Description

Jeaunaux-Robin Champagne Sélection Éclats de Meulière Extra Brut NV is a characterful grower Champagne that proves great wines don’t only come from famous Grand Cru villages. Crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this organically farmed cuvée offers precision, energy and depth at a level that often outshines more widely known labels in its category. Its name, “Éclats de Meulière,” refers to the shards of hard millstone limestone embedded in the soils of the Vallée du Petit Morin – a discreet corner of Champagne that is now on the radar of serious enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Sélection Éclats de Meulière shows a pale, luminous straw-yellow color with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate, creamy mousse. The nose is immediately refined and chalk-driven, with notes of lemon zest, green apple and crisp pear layered over hints of white flowers, fresh almonds, subtle brioche and a faint touch of wet stone. On the palate, this Extra Brut is taut, vibrant and beautifully dry, with a chiselled mineral backbone that clearly reflects its limestone-rich terroir. Citrus and orchard fruits are joined by nuances of toasted hazelnut, light pastry and a saline, almost flinty edge that extends into a long, focused finish. The low dosage keeps everything lifted and precise, making it both an excellent aperitif and a versatile gastronomic Champagne. Enjoy now for its tension and freshness, or cellar for 4–7 years to gain more complexity, creaminess and tertiary nuances.

Production
The fruit for Éclats de Meulière comes from the Vallée du Petit Morin in Champagne, a lesser-known area characterized by marl soils of clay and chalk, laced with particularly hard meulière (millstone) limestone that imparts a distinct minerality and tension to the wines. Jeaunaux-Robin farms these vineyards organically, with elements of biodynamic practice, emphasizing soil vitality, biodiversity and low yields. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and balance. In the cellar, vinification follows a contemporary, artisanal approach: gentle pressing, indigenous or carefully selected yeasts, fermentation in a mix of stainless steel and, in part, neutral oak for added texture, followed by an extended maturation on the lees to build complexity and finesse. The wine is bottled for secondary fermentation and aged on its lees in bottle before disgorgement, with a very low Extra Brut dosage to let the terroir’s character shine through.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is superb as an aperitif but really comes into its own at the table. Its bright acidity and saline, mineral core make it a natural partner for oysters, shellfish, sashimi, ceviche and simply prepared white fish such as sole or turbot. It also pairs beautifully with poultry in light cream sauces, vegetable terrines, sushi, as well as aged hard cheeses like Comté or Parmesan and delicately spiced charcuterie. Serve well chilled but not icy, ideally at 8–10°C (46–50°F). A short time in a larger white-wine glass, or a brief 15-minute rest after opening, allows the aromas to unfurl; full decanting is not necessary but a bit of aeration enhances its complexity.

Producer
Jeaunaux-Robin is a small, family-run grower estate based in the Vallée du Petit Morin, working as récoltant-manipulant and crafting Champagne exclusively from its own vineyards. Established over several generations and now led by Cyril Jeaunaux, the domaine has become a reference point for what is possible in Champagne’s so-called “outsider” terroirs. Embracing organic viticulture and incorporating biodynamic principles, Jeaunaux-Robin focuses on meticulous vineyard work, careful, low-intervention winemaking and long lees aging to capture purity and site expression. Though still relatively under the radar compared to larger houses, the estate enjoys a strong reputation among connoisseurs and sommeliers for its highly characterful, terroir-driven Champagnes that consistently overdeliver for their level and price.
