Description

Jean Gagnerot Vosne-Romanee 2022 captures the magic of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated villages in a beautifully refined, modern expression. Crafted from Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero) grown on the prized slopes of Vosne-Romanée, it balances purity of fruit with the subtle complexity that defines great Côte de Nuits reds. This is a poised, terroir-driven wine that offers early drinking charm while hinting at the depth that has made Vosne-Romanée a benchmark for Pinot lovers worldwide.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Vosne-Romanee 2022 shows a bright, translucent ruby color with youthful purple reflections along the rim. The nose is immediately inviting, with red and dark berry aromas—wild strawberry, raspberry, and black cherry—layered with rose petals, subtle violet, and a gentle touch of sweet spice. Underneath, hints of forest floor, fine cedar, and a whisper of vanilla or toast suggest sensitive use of oak rather than dominance. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, and precise, with the hallmark elegance of Vosne-Romanée. Juicy red cherry and raspberry are supported by supple tannins and a lively, well-integrated acidity that keeps the wine fresh and long on the finish. Delicate notes of clove, baking spice, and a faint savory, earthy dimension unfold with air. While very approachable in its youth for its purity of fruit and fine texture, it has the structure to develop additional complexity over the next 6–10 years, gaining more tertiary notes of truffle, underbrush, and dried flowers with careful cellaring.

Production
This Vosne-Romanee 2022 is sourced from vineyard parcels rooted in classic Burgundian limestone and clay soils, which naturally limit yields and enhance aromatic precision and minerality in Pinot Noir. The cool continental climate of the Côte de Nuits, combined with well-exposed slopes, allows for slow, even ripening and a delicate balance between richness and freshness. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to allow careful selection of bunches in the vineyard, preserving only the healthiest and best-ripened fruit. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian vinification is employed: gentle destemming (sometimes with a proportion of whole clusters depending on the vintage), a cool pre-fermentation maceration to capture aromatic intensity, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled vats with regular pigeage or remontage to extract color and fine tannins. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—often with a judicious proportion of new oak—to add texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of the fruit or the signature elegance of Vosne-Romanée.

Food & Serving
Jean Gagnerot Vosne-Romanee 2022 is a versatile gastronomic partner, shining alongside refined dishes rather than overpowering them. It pairs beautifully with roasted duck breast, herb-crusted lamb, veal chops, or classic Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon, where its bright acidity and silky tannins complement rich sauces. It is also excellent with game birds, mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, and well-aged but not overly powerful cheeses such as Comté, Tomme, or mild goat cheese. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 15–17°C (59–63°F). Young bottles benefit from 30–60 minutes of decanting to allow the aromatics to fully open; as the wine ages, a more delicate decanting just before serving will help separate any natural sediment while preserving its evolving bouquet.

Producer
Jean Gagnerot is a historic Burgundian name, associated with crafting wines that respect the traditions and nuances of the Côte d’Or’s greatest terroirs. Rooted in the classic villages of Burgundy, the house has built its reputation on expressing Pinot Noir with clarity, finesse, and a strong sense of place. Through carefully chosen vineyard holdings and long-standing grower relationships, Jean Gagnerot has become known for wines that are both accessible and true to their origins. In Vosne-Romanée—a village often cited among the finest addresses for Pinot Noir in the world—the producer focuses on meticulous vineyard work, selective harvesting, and sensitive élevage to showcase the appellation’s hallmark combination of perfume, structure, and length. This Vosne-Romanee 2022 continues that legacy, offering a polished, authentic snapshot of Burgundy in a highly regarded modern vintage.
