Description
Jacquesson Cuvée 742 Brut Magnum is a beautifully precise Champagne that showcases the house’s signature, terroir-driven style in a generous magnum format. Based on the 2015 vintage and bottled with no dosage, it offers striking purity, tension, and complexity, with a blend shaped by Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier from some of Champagne’s most expressive villages.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a fine, persistent mousse, Cuvée 742 opens with a refined nose of citrus peel, green apple, white flowers, toasted brioche, and subtle stone-fruit nuance. There is a mineral edge beneath the fruit, giving the wine a sense of precision and lift.
The palate is dry, focused, and layered, with ripe orchard fruit, lemon zest, chalky freshness, and a savoury, gently autolytic depth from its extended time on lees. The absence of dosage keeps the finish crisp and linear, making this a Champagne that is immediately compelling yet well suited to further development in bottle over the next several years.
Production
Cuvée 742 is built on the 2015 harvest, with fruit sourced primarily from Aÿ, Dizy, and Hautvillers in the Vallée de la Marne, alongside Avize and Oiry in the Côte des Blancs, plus reserve wines from older vintages. Around 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir, and 20% Pinot Meunier are spontaneously fermented in large wooden casks, then aged for 36 months on lees before disgorgement without dosage.
Food & Serving
An excellent partner for oysters, shellfish, sashimi, roast chicken, or delicate dishes with butter and herbs, this Champagne also shines with aged hard cheeses and refined canapés. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not recommended; a brief rest in the glass is usually enough for it to open beautifully.
Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most respected growers and a benchmark for elegant, terroir-focused wines. Founded in 1798, the house has built a strong reputation for moving away from a uniform house style and instead highlighting vintage character and individual vineyard expression, with the Cuvée 700 series standing as one of its most admired achievements.
