Description

Jacquesson Cuvée 738 Dégorgement Tardif Magnum is a characterful Champagne that shows the house’s precise, terroir-driven style in a larger-format bottle designed for graceful development. Based on the 2010 vintage and enriched with reserve wines, it balances freshness, texture, and depth with the kind of polish that has made Jacquesson one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers.

Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a lively, persistent mousse, this Champagne opens with delicate notes of white flowers, almond, and dried fruit, supported by a subtle brioche nuance from extended lees aging. On the palate it is fresh and energetic, with fine, layered bubbles, crisp acidity, and a mineral backbone that gives shape to the wine’s generous fruit and nutty complexity. The finish is long and refined, with a sense of tension and chalky elegance that makes it especially compelling now, while still offering room to evolve further. Thanks to the magnum format and late disgorgement, it has excellent aging potential and should continue to gain depth and complexity over time.

Production
Cuvée 738 is built around the character of the 2010 harvest, blended with 33% reserve wines and composed of 61% Chardonnay, 21% Pinot Meunier, and 18% Pinot Noir. The grapes are gently pressed in vertical basket presses to minimize extraction of phenolics from the skins, helping preserve the wine’s finesse and purity. As part of Jacquesson’s 700-series philosophy, the wine is aged in oak for up to 24 months before bottling and secondary fermentation, then disgorged in July 2019.

Food & Serving
This Champagne works beautifully with oysters, scallops, sashimi, grilled white fish, and refined poultry dishes, but it is also expressive enough for aged Comté or lightly truffled dishes. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the magnum a few minutes in the glass can help the aromatics open fully.

Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is a historic house with roots dating back to 1798, and it has become especially admired for its meticulous, artisanal approach and emphasis on vineyard expression. The 700-series cuvées reflect the estate’s commitment to making the best possible wine each year rather than chasing a fixed non-vintage style, a philosophy that has earned Jacquesson a strong reputation among Champagne enthusiasts and collectors alike.
