Description

Jacques Selosse Champagne Brut Rosé is a rare and highly distinctive grower Champagne that captures Anselme Selosse’s uncompromising style in a rosé format. Built primarily on Chardonnay from Avize with a smaller portion of Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, it combines elegance, depth, and a lightly oxidative signature that has made Selosse one of Champagne’s most iconic names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful mousse and a fine, persistent bead rather than an overly deep rosé color. The nose is expressive and layered, with notes of shortbread biscuits, raspberry, strawberry, passion fruit, and a touch of red currant, all framed by subtle oak and a faintly saline, mineral edge. On the palate, this is where the wine really becomes memorable: more muscular and vinous than many rosé Champagnes, with a lightly oxidative character, ripe citrus, and powerful mineral tension. The oak influence is more pronounced in the mouth, adding breadth and texture, while the modest dosage keeps the finish poised and dry. It has the structure to evolve beautifully in bottle, gaining further complexity over time.

Production
This cuvée is assembled from around 90% Chardonnay sourced from Avize across two vintages and 10% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, also spanning two vintages. Part of the wine is fermented in used barrels before spending roughly 60 months on the lees in bottle, and it is disgorged with a restrained dosage of 4–6 g/l, depending on the balance of the lot. The result is a Champagne shaped by chalky terroir, careful blending, and a deliberately restrained, low-intervention approach.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at 8–10°C to highlight its freshness and detail, and consider a short decant if you want to let the more oxidative, savory elements open up. It pairs beautifully with dishes that can match its intensity, such as salmon tartare, tuna crudo, roast duck, guinea fowl, aged Comté, or even truffle-based dishes.

Producer
Champagne Jacques Selosse, led by Anselme Selosse, has become one of the most influential names in modern Champagne. Based in Avize, the estate is known for its singular, terroir-driven wines, use of oak, and willingness to challenge convention, helping redefine what Champagne can taste like. Selosse’s cult status is well deserved, with the house widely regarded as one of the benchmark producers in the region.
