Description

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Le Musigny Grand Cru 2007 is a beautifully refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated vineyards. Rather than sheer power, it offers poise, precision, and a floating sense of balance that makes it a classic example of Chambolle-Musigny’s graceful style. With nearly two decades of maturity, it now shows the depth and complexity that have made Musigny one of the most iconic names in Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru has a delicate, luminous presence that reflects its elegant character. The nose is layered with red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, dried rose petals, violet, forest floor, and subtle oriental spice, now folded into mature notes of tea leaf, undergrowth, and a hint of truffle. The palate is silky and seamless, with pure, finely detailed fruit, perfectly integrated tannins, and a mineral core that carries the wine through a long, nuanced finish. It has notable intensity, but everything is delivered with lift and finesse rather than weight. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and while it is fully expressive now, it will continue to evolve gracefully for years to come.

Production
Le Musigny comes from one of the most revered Grand Cru sites in Burgundy, in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone-rich soils and an exceptional terroir help produce Pinot Noir of remarkable perfume, finesse, and mineral precision. Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is known for its meticulous, low-intervention approach and small-scale production, with a strong focus on allowing the vineyard character to shine through. The 2007 vintage, marked by elegance rather than concentration, fits the house style especially well, emphasizing purity, balance, and transparency.

Food & Serving
This is a wine best enjoyed with dishes that respect its subtlety and aromatic depth, such as roast pigeon, duck breast, veal with mushrooms, game birds, or truffled poultry dishes. It also pairs beautifully with refined mushroom-based plates and gently seasoned fine cuisine. Serve at around 15–17°C, and consider decanting briefly if the bottle is opened at a younger stage; at this mature age, a gentle opening in the glass is often sufficient.

Producer
Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is one of Burgundy’s most respected names, with a reputation built on precision, restraint, and an unwavering commitment to terroir. Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the domaine is especially admired for its holdings in Musigny, widely considered the jewel of the estate and one of the greatest vineyards in Burgundy. Over the years, the producer has earned an exceptional following among collectors and critics alike for wines that prioritize elegance, purity, and extraordinary length over overt power.
