Description
J. J. Confuron Nuits-St-Georges Les Fleurieres 2021 is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most characterful villages. Sourced from the Les Fleurieres lieu-dit, this cuvée marries classic Nuits structure with an aromatic, almost floral finesse that immediately speaks of its terroir. The 2021 vintage, marked by low yields and careful selection, gives a wine of precision, freshness and authentic Burgundian charm.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Nuits-St-Georges shows a vibrant, translucent ruby hue with youthful brightness at the rim. The nose opens delicately yet persistently, with red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry layered over notes of rose petal, violets, subtle spice and a hint of forest floor and fine oak.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and precise, with pure red-fruited tension and a fine-boned structure. Juicy cherry and raspberry are supported by lively acidity and finely grained tannins, giving both energy and length. Subtle notes of baking spice, dried herbs and a mineral, chalky edge linger on the finish. While already approachable in its youth with a short decant, this 2021 has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over 8–12 years, gaining complexity and a more savoury, earthy dimension.
Production
Les Fleurieres sits on classic Burgundy limestone-clay soils, giving wines that combine fragrance with a firm underlying backbone. Confuron Jean Jacques works with careful vineyard management, favouring moderate yields and hand-harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy Pinot Noir clusters are brought to the cellar. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats with a proportion of whole bunches depending on vintage character, promoting aromatic lift and fine tannin structure. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with a judicious use of new wood, to preserve purity of fruit and terroir expression while adding gentle texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This Nuits-St-Georges is a versatile gastronomic red, ideal with dishes that highlight its elegant structure and bright fruit. Think roast duck with cherries, herb-crusted lamb, veal chops, mushroom risotto, game birds, or simply a well-roasted chicken with root vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with semi-soft cheeses such as Comté, Tomme or mild washed-rind styles. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) in Burgundy stems for optimal aromatic expression. Young bottles will benefit from 30–45 minutes in a decanter to open up the bouquet, while mature bottles are best handled more gently, with a brief, careful splash decant if needed.
