Inglenook Estate, RC Reserve Syrah, 2017

Inglenook Estate RC Reserve Syrah 2017 is a personal tribute to Syrah from Roman Coppola, created to unite the variety’s bold, generous fruit with the finer texture and nuance of the Northern Rhône style. Crafted at one of California’s most historic estates, it brings together richness, precision, and a distinctly thoughtful sense of balance.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark purple core that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is classic Syrah: layered with blueberry, blackcurrant, liquorice, olive, thyme, lavender, and rosemary, with subtle oak complexity in the background. The palate is full-flavored and expressive, with ripe dark fruit framed by savoury herb notes, polished tannins, and a long, structured finish. The French oak ageing adds refinement without taking away the grape’s natural energy, and the wine should continue to develop beautifully over the coming years.

Production
RC Reserve Syrah is produced at Inglenook Estate in California, where the aim was to capture the best of two Syrah traditions: the plush, fruit-driven power associated with Australia and the aromatic elegance and texture of Northern Rhône wines. The wine was matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which were new, giving it added structure and subtle spice while preserving purity of fruit.

Food & Serving
This Syrah is a natural match for grilled lamb, roast beef, braised short ribs, venison, or richly seasoned mushroom dishes. It also works well with hard cheeses and herb-driven cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if you want to open up the aromatics and soften the structure.
