Inglenook Estate’s Edizione Pennino Zinfandel 2019 is a richly expressive California red that showcases how refined Zinfandel can be in the right hands. Named in tribute to Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, it combines heritage, precision, and generous fruit in a wine that stands out for both character and craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows deep, concentrated color with the kind of intensity you expect from a serious Zinfandel. The nose is layered with blackberry and raspberry, lifted by vanilla and mocha notes from oak aging. On the palate, ripe berry fruit leads the way, supported by firm, ripe tannins and lively acidity that keep the wine balanced despite its full-bodied, velvety texture. The finish is long and supple, and the wine has the depth to evolve well over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from Inglenook’s best estate parcels in California, where the vineyard sites are chosen to bring both ripeness and structure to the final blend. Harvesting is done in several passes to ensure only fruit picked at ideal maturity makes it into the wine, and each lot is carefully hand-sorted and destemmed. Vinification takes place in small tanks by individual parcel before the wine is aged for up to 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, adding complexity, spice, and the signature vanilla and mocha tones.

Food & Serving
This Zinfandel pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted meats, barbecue, slow-cooked beef, lamb, or dishes with rich tomato-based sauces. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and hearty Mediterranean fare. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended to let the aromas open fully.
