Description

Il Poggione’s Brunello di Montalcino is a classic expression of Sangiovese from one of Tuscany’s most respected estates. Made from fruit grown on the estate’s own vineyards, including vines over 20 years old, it combines depth, elegance, and the traditional long oak ageing that has made Brunello one of Italy’s most celebrated wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the poised structure and noble colour typical of Brunello, with an inviting bouquet of black cherry, plum, and a subtle spicy note from extended barrel ageing. The palate is beautifully balanced, where concentrated fruit is supported by soft, ripe tannins and a long, generous finish. This is a wine with immediate appeal, yet it also has the backbone to evolve gracefully in bottle. Under the right cellaring conditions, it should continue to develop complexity over many years, gaining more savoury, earthy nuances with age.

Production
The Sangiovese grapes are harvested from Il Poggione’s own vineyards in Montalcino, drawn from vines more than 20 years old. After harvest, the wine undergoes controlled-temperature fermentation for 15 days before being transferred to large oak casks of 30 to 50 hectolitres, a traditional Brunello ageing approach designed to preserve fruit purity while adding refinement. It then matures for three years in oak before final bottling.

Food & Serving
This Brunello is a natural match for grilled veal or lamb, especially dishes with herbs, garlic, or a touch of char from the grill. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for an hour or two if opening young, as this will help the aromas unfold and the structure soften further.

Producer
Il Poggione is one of the historic names of Montalcino and has long been regarded as a benchmark producer in Brunello. With a strong reputation for traditional winemaking and consistent quality, the estate is closely associated with some of the region’s most classically styled wines and has earned widespread recognition for its elegance and ageing potential.
