Hensel Weingut’s Spätburgunder Höhenflug 2022 is a poised, feather-light Pinot Noir from Pfalz that combines elegance with a distinctly modern, ambitious style. Named “Höhenflug,” or “high-flying,” it reflects both the wine’s lifted character and Thomas Hensel’s passion for gliding, which has shaped the airy, almost weightless personality of the cuvée.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the refined clarity typical of well-made Pinot Noir, with an inviting brightness and a delicate, translucent ruby tone. The nose is beautifully expressive, offering a mix of dark and red forest berries, lifted by notes of autumn woodland, moss, and fallen leaves. On the palate, it feels silky, juicy, and effortlessly smooth, with supple tannins and a fresh, elegant flow that gives the wine its sense of weightlessness. The 20 months in barrique add subtle depth and polish rather than obvious oak, and the wine should drink very well now while also developing gracefully over the next few years.

Serve at around 14°C for the best expression of its aromatic lift and silky texture. It works beautifully with roasted poultry, duck, veal, mushroom dishes, or lighter game, and can also be enjoyed on its own as a polished, elegant glass of red. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up the wine if served young.
