Description

Château Haut-Brion 2000 is one of Bordeaux’s most sought-after First Growth wines, offering the kind of depth, polish, and longevity that defines the great wines of Pessac-Léognan. A benchmark blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines remarkable concentration with a signature smoky elegance that has made Haut-Brion legendary for centuries.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet core with a refined, mature rim. The nose is classically Haut-Brion: layered and complex, with cassis, plum, cedar, tobacco, truffle, graphite, and a subtle smoky, earthy note that adds intrigue and sophistication. On the palate, the wine is silky yet powerful, with beautifully integrated tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, resonant finish. The fruit is now in a more tertiary phase, with notes of leather, forest floor, spice, and warm earth joining the darker berry character. This is a wine with superb aging potential and can continue to evolve gracefully for many more years in a proper cellar.

Production
Haut-Brion’s vineyards in Pessac-Léognan are planted on the region’s prized gravelly soils, which provide excellent drainage and help the vines ripen slowly and evenly. The estate’s location near Bordeaux also gives it a slightly warmer microclimate than many Left Bank properties, contributing to the wine’s distinctive aromatic richness and early harmony. Harvesting is done with great precision, and vinification follows the estate’s tradition of careful parcel selection and meticulous blending to capture both power and finesse.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for refined dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant gently if the bottle is youthful or has been stored for a long time; if already well matured, a short decant or careful double-decanting is usually sufficient to remove sediment and allow the bouquet to open.

Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and prestigious estates, with origins dating back to the 16th century and a reputation that helped define the very idea of great claret. It was the only estate outside the Médoc included in the original 1855 Classification as a First Growth, a testament to its longstanding excellence. Today, Haut-Brion remains a reference point for finesse, complexity, and aging potential in Bordeaux.
