Hahn Family Wines’ Founders GSM Blend 2023 is a California take on one of the Rhône Valley’s most celebrated red wine styles, combining Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre in a wine that balances generosity, spice, and structure. Crafted in Monterey County’s cool-climate vineyards, it shows how well this classic Southern Rhône trio can translate to American terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this GSM typically shows a deep ruby hue with youthful vibrancy. The nose brings together ripe red and dark berries, peppery spice, and a subtle savory edge, while the palate leans into Grenache’s juicy fruit, Syrah’s black-fruit depth and pepper, and Mourvèdre’s firming grip and earthy character. The result is a medium-to-full-bodied red with plenty of freshness and a smooth, food-friendly finish. It is made for drinking now, though it should hold nicely over the next few years as the components continue to knit together.

Production
The grapes come from Hahn Family Wines’ vineyards in Monterey County, where elevated sites and cooling maritime influences help preserve acidity and extend ripening. These conditions are particularly well suited to Rhône varieties, allowing the fruit to develop flavor concentration while retaining balance and freshness. The blend is vinified to highlight the individual strengths of each grape before being assembled into a harmonious final cuvée.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, pork, grilled sausages, or herb-driven Mediterranean dishes, as well as hearty mushroom-based plates. Serve at around 14°C for the best balance of fruit and structure, and decanting is optional but recommended if you want to open up the aromas and soften the wine slightly in its youth.
