Description
Gustave Goussard Champagne Respect N°1 Brut is a refined non-vintage Champagne crafted to highlight purity, balance, and the character of the region’s classic chalky soils. This cuvée is designed as an accessible yet serious expression of Champagne, ideal both for celebration and thoughtful sipping. Respect N°1 nods to tradition while embracing a modern, precise style, making it a standout choice among grower and boutique Champagnes.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Respect N°1 Brut shows a bright, pale straw hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The nose is fresh and inviting, offering notes of crisp green apple, lemon zest, white flowers, and pear, with subtle layers of brioche, almond, and chalky minerality emerging as it opens.
On the palate, this Champagne is dry, lively, and finely textured, with a mouthwatering acidity that keeps everything focused and refreshing. Expect flavors of citrus and orchard fruits—think apple, pear, and a touch of grapefruit—interwoven with hints of pastry, nuts, and a saline, mineral edge that clearly speaks of Champagne’s limestone-rich soils. The finish is clean, elegant, and gently creamy, with enough structure to age for a few years, though it is drinking beautifully now for those who appreciate fresh, vibrant Champagne.
Production
Respect N°1 Brut is crafted from carefully selected grapes grown in the heart of the Champagne region, where cool climate and chalk-limestone soils provide the backbone of freshness and finesse. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and meticulous sorting before pressing. The must is then fermented in temperature-controlled conditions to preserve purity of fruit and aromatic precision. After blending base wines from different parcels and possibly multiple years, the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle following the traditional méthode champenoise. It is aged on its lees to build texture and complexity before disgorgement and a carefully judged dosage to achieve a balanced Brut style.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is a versatile partner at the table: enjoy it as an elegant apéritif, or pair it with oysters, fresh seafood, sushi, light fish dishes, goat cheese, or delicate poultry. Its freshness and fine bubbles also complement canapés, tempura, and lightly salted snacks such as almonds or charcuterie with more subtle seasoning. Serve well-chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its vibrancy. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or in a decanter designed for sparkling wines can help the aromas fully open, but extended decanting is not necessary.
