Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Cont'Ugo is a polished 100% Merlot from one of Tuscany’s most prestigious coastal estates, crafted by Tenuta Guado al Tasso, part of the Antinori family. Sourced from the celebrated Bolgheri amphitheater, it shows why Merlot can reach remarkable depth and finesse in this unique terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red color. The nose is expressive and inviting, with small red berries at the forefront—cherry, morello cherry, and raspberry—lifted by sweet spice and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is smooth and balanced, with silky tannins and a pleasing sense of persistence. It combines ripeness and freshness well, offering immediate charm now while still having the structure to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Production
Cont'Ugo is made from carefully selected Merlot grapes grown on the Guado al Tasso estate’s vineyards in the Bolgheri area of coastal Tuscany. The vineyards benefit from the region’s distinctive amphitheater-like landscape, where hills shelter the plains and help create ideal ripening conditions for Merlot. Harvesting focuses on the best parcels, followed by vinification aimed at preserving fruit purity, texture, and the varietal character of the grape.

Food & Serving
This Merlot pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, grilled veal, mushroom risotto, pasta with rich meat sauces, and Tuscan-style charcuterie. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decanting for 30-60 minutes can help open up its aromas and soften the wine’s youthful structure.
