Description
Château Giscours 2000 is a classic Margaux from one of the Left Bank’s most admired estates, offering the elegance and structure that have made this Third Growth a benchmark in Bordeaux. The 2000 vintage adds extra depth and concentration, making this a particularly compelling bottle for collectors and Bordeaux lovers alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet core with softened ruby edges, reflecting both age and the quality of the vintage. The nose is refined and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, dried plum, cedar, tobacco, violet, and a subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied with polished tannins, well-integrated oak, and a balanced mix of dark fruit, graphite, and savoury notes. The finish is long and poised, with enough structure to continue aging gracefully, though it is already in a very enjoyable drinking window now.
Production
Château Giscours lies in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, where gravel-rich soils provide excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon thrive. The estate has long focused on careful vineyard management and traditional Bordeaux vinification, with grapes typically harvested parcel by parcel to preserve precision and expression of terroir.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game dishes, as well as truffle-accented preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially to allow its aromatics to open fully.
Producer
Château Giscours is one of the historic estates of Margaux and was classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Over the years it has built a strong reputation for producing elegant, ageworthy wines that reflect the finesse and perfume of Margaux, and it remains one of the region’s most recognisable names.
