Description

Gerard Neumeyer Pinot Gris Grand Cru Bruderthal 2015 is a richly textured Alsatian white that shows just how complex and age-worthy Pinot Gris can be. Sourced from the esteemed Grand Cru Bruderthal vineyard, this wine balances generous fruit with a firm mineral backbone and subtle sweetness. The 2015 vintage, marked by ripe, concentrated grapes in Alsace, gives this bottling depth, intensity, and a long, harmonious finish.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Gris presents a deep golden hue, reflecting both its ripeness and time in bottle. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of ripe pear, baked apple, quince, and apricot, underpinned by acacia blossom, honeycomb, roasted nuts, and a hint of spice and wet stone. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a silky, almost waxy texture typical of serious Alsace Pinot Gris. Flavors of poached pear, yellow plum, candied citrus peel, and mirabelle are lifted by lively acidity and a precise saline minerality from the Bruderthal terroir. Subtle notes of smoke, ginger, and toasted almond emerge with air, leading into a long, gently off-dry finish that remains beautifully balanced rather than overtly sweet. At this stage, the 2015 vintage is entering an excellent drinking window, with its primary fruit evolving into more honeyed, truffle, and dried-fruit nuances; it can easily continue to develop complexity for several more years under good cellar conditions.

Production
Grand Cru Bruderthal, near Molsheim in northern Alsace, is known for its steep, well-exposed slopes and marl-limestone soils that give Pinot Gris both weight and tension. Domaine Neumeyer typically farms these vineyards with great respect for the environment, limiting yields and harvesting by hand to ensure that only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes are selected. In the cellar, the fruit is gently pressed and fermented slowly, often with indigenous yeasts, in temperature-controlled tanks or traditional large foudres to preserve the aromatic expression. Extended lees aging adds texture and depth without masking the terroir, resulting in a wine that is both generous and finely structured.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Pinot Gris is a versatile gastronomic wine that shines with richly flavored dishes. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, roasted poultry with cream sauces, veal, pork loin, and game birds, as well as dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles, or mildly spicy Asian cuisine. It also works well with washed-rind cheeses and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) to let the aromatics fully open while maintaining freshness. Decanting for 20–30 minutes can help the wine unfold its more complex honeyed, nutty, and mineral notes, especially now that it has some bottle age.

Producer
Domaine Neumeyer is a family-run estate based in Alsace, known for its meticulous work in the vineyard and its clear, terroir-driven wines. Over the years, the family has quietly built a reputation for crafting precise, characterful bottlings from some of the region’s best sites, including Grand Cru Bruderthal. By focusing on careful vineyard management, lower yields, and a thoughtful, minimally interventionist approach in the cellar, Domaine Neumeyer has become a respected name among Alsace enthusiasts and sommeliers seeking authentic expressions of the region’s noble grape varieties, particularly Riesling and Pinot Gris.
