Description

Gavignet Hautes Côtes de Nuits Les Dames Huguettes 2022 is a classic, cool-climate Burgundy Pinot Noir that captures the elegance of the hillsides above Nuits-Saint-Georges. Sourced from the renowned Les Dames Huguettes lieu-dit, this cuvée offers a vibrant, terroir-driven expression with both charm in its youth and the structure to evolve. Crafted by the historic Domaine Gavignet Pere & Fils, it reflects centuries of Burgundian savoir-faire distilled into a single, refined red.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Les Dames Huguettes shows a bright, translucent ruby hue, typical of finely made Pinot Noir from the Hautes Côtes. The nose opens with lively red berry aromas—wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry—interwoven with notes of crushed violets, subtle spice, and a delicate hint of forest floor and chalky minerality. On the palate, this wine is precise and medium-bodied, with juicy red fruit at the core, framed by fresh acidity and fine, silky tannins. Flavours of cherry, cranberry, and red currant are layered with gentle notes of white pepper, dried herbs, and a touch of oak nuance, if used, remaining discreetly in the background. The finish is long and clean, carried by a stony freshness that speaks to the elevated vineyards of the Hautes Côtes. Enjoyable in its youth for its energy and purity, this 2022 also has the potential to develop additional complexity over 5–8 years in the cellar, gaining more savoury and earthy dimensions over time.

Production
Les Dames Huguettes lies in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, on the higher slopes above Nuits-Saint-Georges, where cooler nights and well-drained limestone-clay soils deliver Pinot Noir with finesse and tension. The vines benefit from good sun exposure yet retain excellent freshness thanks to the altitude and airflow. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to ensure careful selection and preservation of fruit quality. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian methods apply: gentle destemming (or partial whole bunch, depending on the vintage style), followed by a cool maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled vats to extract color and aromatic precision without excessive tannin. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—often with a modest proportion of new wood—to refine texture and enhance complexity, before bottling with minimal intervention to retain a clear sense of place.

Food & Serving
This refined Pinot Noir is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roasted poultry, duck breast, herb-crusted pork, charcuterie, and earthy dishes featuring mushrooms or lentils. It also complements semi-soft cheeses such as Comté, Tomme, and mild washed-rind styles. Serve at 14–16°C (57–60°F) to highlight its aromatic lift and delicate texture. A short decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up its bouquet, especially in its first few years, though it can also be enjoyed straight from the bottle for a more gradual evolution in the glass.

Producer
Domaine Gavignet Pere & Fils traces its roots back to the early 19th century, when Honoré Gavignet worked as a winemaker at the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti before founding his own estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. His deep respect for the land and terroir-focused philosophy were passed down through the generations, as his son Maurice and subsequent heirs expanded and refined the family holdings. Today, under the guidance of Arnaud Gavignet, the great-grandson of the founder, the domaine continues to embody traditional Burgundian craftsmanship, with meticulous care in the vineyards and cellar. Firmly anchored in the heart of “Grande Bourgogne,” Domaine Gavignet Pere & Fils is recognized in the region for producing characterful, authentic wines that faithfully express their origins, from village-level cuvées to distinctive Hautes Côtes sites like Les Dames Huguettes.
