Description

Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve is a grower Champagne crafted exclusively from the family’s own Grand Cru vineyards in Aÿ, one of Champagne’s most revered villages. Blending predominantly Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, it captures both the power and the finesse that have made Aÿ legendary among Champagne lovers. This non‑vintage cuvée is a benchmark example of terroir-driven Champagne, offering depth, character, and a distinctly artisanal touch.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Gatinois Grand Cru Brut Réserve shows a luminous golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The nose opens with notes of ripe orchard fruits—yellow apple, pear, and Mirabelle plum—layered with brioche, roasted nuts, and a subtle hint of citrus zest and chalky minerality. On the palate, the wine is structured and generous, reflecting Aÿ’s Pinot Noir backbone, yet balanced by the precision and freshness of Chardonnay. Expect flavors of baked apple, white peach, lemon curd, toasted hazelnut, and a touch of honey, all wrapped in a creamy texture and supported by a lively, saline acidity. The finish is long, clean, and subtly spicy, leaving a lingering impression of dried fruits and pastry. As a non‑vintage Champagne built from Grand Cru fruit, it drinks beautifully on release but has the concentration and balance to develop additional complexity over 3–6 years in the cellar.

Production
All grapes for Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve are sourced exclusively from the family’s own holdings in Aÿ, a historic Grand Cru village on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims. Here, the predominantly chalk and limestone soils with clay and marl outcrops give Pinot Noir its characteristic power, depth, and firm structure, while Chardonnay gains tension and mineral elegance. The fruit is harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection and to preserve the integrity of each cluster. In the cellar, traditional Champagne vinification is employed: gentle pressing of whole bunches, temperature‑controlled fermentation, and the careful blending of base wines from multiple years to achieve a consistent house style. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and extended lees aging, adding texture, complexity, and brioche-like nuances before disgorgement and dosage as Brut.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Brut Réserve is versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with refined dishes that echo its depth and structure. Try it with shellfish (lobster, scallops, langoustines), sashimi or lightly seared tuna, roasted poultry, or creamy poultry terrines. It also works well with aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère, and gourmet canapés based on smoked salmon or caviar. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10°C (46–50°F), in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to highlight both aromatics and texture. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass serves as gentle “decanting,” allowing the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic complexity; no formal decanting is required.

Producer
Champagne Gatinois is a family-run grower estate rooted in the Grand Cru village of Aÿ, a historic cradle of Pinot Noir in Champagne. Generations of the family have cultivated these exceptional slopes, supplying grapes to some of the region’s most prestigious houses while also bottling under their own name, which has become a reference for serious Champagne enthusiasts seeking authenticity and terroir expression. Known for their meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and traditional cellar practices, Gatinois has earned a strong reputation for Champagnes that are both powerful and precise, capturing the singular character of Aÿ’s Grand Cru vineyards in every bottle.
