Description
Galia Clos Santuy 2015 is a striking single-vineyard Tempranillo that captures the purity, tension, and depth of high-altitude Castilla y León. Sourced from old vines and crafted with a clear focus on terroir, it reflects the kind of precision and restraint that has made Galia one of the most interesting modern names in Spanish wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Clos Santuy 2015 shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at its structure and intensity. The nose opens with layers of dark berries, black cherry, wild herbs, and a subtle mineral edge, framed by fine oak and an earthy, savory complexity.
On the palate, it combines ripe dark fruit with fresh acidity and tightly woven tannins, giving the wine both power and definition. The finish is long, firm, and mineral-driven. While already highly expressive, it has the concentration and balance to age gracefully for many years.
Production
Clos Santuy comes from a clearly defined parcel of old Tempranillo vines planted at around 900 meters above sea level in northern Castilla y León, just outside the Ribera del Duero appellation. The altitude and the surrounding terroir bring freshness, aromatic lift, and natural structure to the fruit. The wine is spontaneously fermented with native yeasts, with partial whole-cluster inclusion, and then aged for 25 months in used French oak barrels to preserve purity and finesse.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled beef, game, or slow-cooked dishes with herbs and dark sauce. It also pairs beautifully with mature Manchego and other aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the wine fully open.
Producer
Galia Villages is part of the project behind some of Spain’s most terroir-focused wines, with a strong emphasis on old vines, low intervention, and site expression. The wine is made by Jérôme Bougnaud, who spent many years working alongside Peter Sisseck at Pingus, one of Spain’s most celebrated wines. That background is reflected in the precision, balance, and quiet confidence of Clos Santuy.
