Frescobaldi Gorgona Bianco 2024 is a rare and evocative white wine born from one of Italy’s most unusual vineyards: the island of Gorgona, the only island prison in Europe. A collaboration between Marchesi Frescobaldi and the Gorgona community, it combines Vermentino and Inzolia to capture the island’s wild beauty, maritime freshness, and the human story behind the project.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw yellow in the glass, it should show the bright, luminous character typical of a coastal Tuscan white. The nose is expected to be layered and saline, with notes of citrus, white flowers, Mediterranean herbs, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, Vermentino brings freshness and structure while Inzolia adds softness and roundness, creating a wine that feels vibrant, savory, and elegant. This is a white wine best enjoyed for its youthful energy, though its balance and mineral drive may allow for short-term cellaring.

Production
Gorgona comes from the island of the same name in the Tuscan Archipelago, where sea breezes, intense sunlight, and salty maritime soils shape a distinctly island expression. The project began in August 2012 as a partnership between Marchesi Frescobaldi and the Gorgona prison, combining viticulture with social rehabilitation. Harvesting and vinification are carried out with a focus on preserving freshness and the wine’s natural aromatic purity, resulting in a white that reflects both its terroir and its meaningful origin.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, grilled fish, seafood risotto, sushi, and light Mediterranean dishes, especially those featuring herbs and olive oil. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to highlight its saline freshness and aromatic precision. Decanting is not necessary.
