Description

Fratelli Alessandria Dolcetto d'Alba 2023 is a classic, highly drinkable expression of Dolcetto from the heart of Piemonte. Crafted to be enjoyed throughout a meal, it captures the grape’s trademark juicy fruit and charming approachability. This is a traditional Dolcetto d’Alba that focuses on purity, balance, and effortless pleasure, echoing the style that has made the variety a daily favorite on Piemontese tables for generations.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba shows a vibrant, deep ruby-purple color that hints at its youthful energy. The nose is immediately inviting, with aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and wild berries, layered with subtle notes of violet, fresh herbs, and a faint suggestion of almond and spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet generous, with juicy dark fruit at the core—think blackberries and cherries—supported by soft, rounded tannins and a refreshing, gently bitter finish typical of Dolcetto. The wine is dry, smooth, and beautifully balanced, offering immediate drinkability without sacrificing character. While designed to be enjoyed young for its fresh, primary fruit, it can comfortably evolve over the next 3–4 years, gaining a touch of complexity while retaining its easy charm.

Production
Fratelli Alessandria sources this Dolcetto d’Alba from vineyards in the rolling hills of Piemonte, where calcareous and clay-rich soils, combined with good exposure and cooler night temperatures, help preserve aromatics and freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection in the vineyard. In the cellar, fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel or traditional concrete tanks at controlled temperatures to highlight Dolcetto’s naturally vibrant fruit. Maceration is relatively short to keep tannins supple and the wine approachable, and aging is done in inert vessels rather than oak, so the final wine remains pure, clean, and true to variety and terroir.

Food & Serving
This Dolcetto d’Alba is wonderfully versatile at the table and suits almost every course of a casual or rustic Italian meal. Enjoy it with antipasti, charcuterie, simple tomato-based pastas, pizza, grilled sausages, roast chicken, or lighter meat dishes, as well as semi-hard cheeses like Fontina or young Pecorino. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) for the best balance of fruit and structure. Decanting is not strictly necessary, but a brief 15–20 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up its aromatic profile if served soon after opening.

Producer
Fratelli Alessandria is a historic, family-run estate based in Verduno, one of the traditional villages of Barolo in Piemonte. With roots dating back to the 19th century, the winery has long been recognized for its classical, terroir-driven expressions of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. Their approach combines deep respect for local traditions with attentive vineyard work and thoughtful, non-interventionist winemaking. As a respected reference point in Verduno and the wider Barolo area, Fratelli Alessandria is celebrated for producing wines of authenticity, elegance, and consistency—qualities that shine through even in their most everyday, drink-now bottlings like this Dolcetto d’Alba.
